"Because of the ongoing uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the current UK government advice, we have taken the difficult decision to suspend flights and holidays to the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca) for the rest of Summer 20", the airline said in a statement.
Almost instantly it announced new connections to Greece, Portugal and Turkey - over 500 flights or a capacity of 100,000 seats in a whole. The airline increases its connections to Faro and Madeira in Portugal.
Furthermore it will add extra services to Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum in Turkey. In the case of Greece it will increase its services to Crete, Corfu, Kos, Zante, Kefalonia and Rhodes.
Spanish "bookings for next summer are very strong", the airline said in a statement, sending a sign of hope to the struggling Spanish tourism industry that - like the Spanish government - does not agree with British quarantine politics.
