Japan Airlines enters comfort zone with 777-200ER

TOKIO - Japan Airlines (JAL) introduces Sky Suite III Business Class seats across its Boeing 777-200ER fleet along with upgraded Premium Economy and Economy cabins. The oneworld airline will launch the product June 18 on its Tokyo Haneda to Bangkok route with other services to follow.

JAL`s 777-200ER Sky Suite III cabins comprise 42 seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. Fully flat, the berths offers 198 cm bed length.

JAL Sky Premium Economy services invite up to 40 passengers to 48 cm wide seats aligned in 2-4-2 rows at 107 cm seat pitch. "A seat pitch and width like that seen in the early days of business class", the airline notes. Still, the seats maintain a "fixed back design" and will not recline.

Up to 154 Economy passengers will enjoy "legroom increased up to 10 cm by expanding seat pitch and making seats thinner" on the 777-200ER, according to JAL. The Japanese carrier opts for a rather unusual 3-4-2 seat configuration to "allow groups of 2 to 4 passengers to sit together" and "make aisle access easier".
