LONDON  - Heathrow has submitted "shovel-ready proposals" for a privately financed third runway, capable of flights taking off within a decade. The "once-in-a-generation" redesign of the runway and terminal system received government backing earlier this year - and carries a 49 billion GBP price tag.

The British Airways hub remained the biggest European airport by passenger numbers with 83.8 millions travellers last year. An airport in the United States is trailing Heathrow close behind.

LONDON - Gatwick Airport wants to put its northern runway to full use by the end of the decade. The Government just signaled support for the project as the Secretary of State for Transport "is minded to approve" the northern runway plans and has outlined "a clear pathway to full approval" later in the year.

MANCHESTER - Manchester Airport has recorded 30 million passengers in a year - putting it alongside some of the biggest airports in the world. A twelve months streak of straight growth supported by several new routes put the airport over the mark - during the final stage of a transformation plan.

LONDON - Emirates has opened its doors to a new lounge at London Stansted. The airline has invested more than 4 million GBP to design a spacious 900-square-metre lounge that can accommodate up to 125 guests at a time, including First and Business Class customers, as well as Emirates Skywards members.

LONDON - Heathrow airport faces a regulatory setback as its watchdog cuts and caps passenger fee increases even further. UK Civil Aviation Authority outlined new curbs for the 2025 and 2026 periods at Britains largest airport in response to a recent ruling from the Competition and Markets Authority.

LONDON - London Stansted passed the rolling 29 million passengers a year milestone for the first time in its history following its busiest ever June on record. Stansted handled 2.8 million passengers in June, an increase of 8.3 percent on the same month last year - and 153,000 more passengers than the previous busiest ever June in 2019.

LONDON - The UK will ease rules on liquids in carry-on luggage within the next two years. According to a media reports, the ongoing introduction of latest generation CT scanners at British airports will also relax security check protocols for travelers with regard to electronic items like notebooks and tablets.

LONDON - Strong passenger demand and higher air traffic volumes following the lifting of all UK travel restrictions in March 2022 accelerated Gatwick’s recovery from the impacts of the pandemic, the airport revealed in its half year results. The London hub increased its passenger forecast for the remainder of 2022.

LONDON - Ryanair adds over one million seats to its winter schedules to and from 20 UK airports "in response to British Airways’ announcement that it will cancel 8 percent of its winter schedule due to staff shortages and capacity cuts" at "hopeless Heathrow" airport. The Irish LCC expects to carry more passengers this year.

LONDON - London Heathrow airport caps it daily departures at 100,000 passengers to avoid additional cancellations through the summer period. The airport expects an average of 1,500 passengers per day to be affected by the "intervention" - and blames airlines for not taking sufficient action to help ease the situation.

ABERDEEN - Loganair, the UK’s largest regional airline, has further bolstered its route network as it launches a new direct service between Aberdeen and Dublin, with the first flight taking to the skies Sunday 5 September. The airline operates the route with a 49-seat Embraer 145 regional jet.

LONDON - The further easing of travel restrictions throughout July resulted in a 74% upsurge in passengers compared with July 2020 at Heathrow Airport. With consumer confidence on the rise, over 1.5 million travellers passed through Heathrow, marking the highest monthly passenger numbers since March 2020.
