SYDNEY - Qantas expects to freeze its strategy for Sydney - London nonstop flights "within the next 12 months".

Qantas kept its Project Sunrise in a holding pattern through the pandemic. The airline will revisit the preparation for ultra-longhaul flights no later than 2022, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said in a CAPA webcast.

"This makes a great strategy in a post-Covid enviroment," Joyce said. The airline is looking to buy special mission Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft for the marathon routes.
