Play and Braathens International suspended flight operations - smaller airlines meet adverse market conditions in autumn 2025
British regional specialist Eastern Airways is the next one in trouble. The airline suspended its flight operations on Monday and will put itself under provisional administration.
"All Eastern Airways operated flights are now cancelled," British aviation regulator CAA said. "Eastern Airways customers are therefore urged to make their own alternative travel arrangements via other airlines, rail or coach operators."
Eastern Airways, established in 1997, had four Embraer E190s, three ATR 72s and five BAE Jetstream 41s registered under its AOC. Still, the airline had already thinned out its network between London Gatwick, Aberdeen, Humberside, Newquay and Teesside and trimmed its active fleet.
Following the exit of Flybmi in 2019 and the collapse of Flybe in early 2023, Eastern Airways was the last major regional airline in the United Kingdom alongside Loganair.
