BOURNEMOUTH - British cargo airline European Cargo has entered administration proceedings after weeks of operational disruption. The Bournemouth-based carrier had suspended flight operations on 19 May, with administrators formally taking control of the company on 3 June 2026.

European Cargo was a product of the air cargo boom during the Covid-19 pandemic to meet demand for freight capacity and emergency medical shipments.

From a base at Bournemouth Airport, the airline built a niche business model around freighter-converted Airbus A340-600 aircraft, operating long-haul cargo services between the United Kingdom, Asia and North America.

At its peak, the company operated a fleet of up to ten active A340-600 freighters and several additional aircraft in storage.

Administrators from Teneo Financial Advisory said the company had come under financial pressure due to reduced flying activity, working-capital constraints and rising fuel costs. European Cargo recently had 178 employees.
